Shriek Show – Salem

Happy Halloween Weekend! For this segment, we thought we’d cover Salem, Massachusetts. Salem is considered one of the most haunted cities in the country. It is most commonly known for being the location of the most popular witch trials in history.
One of the most haunted locations in Salem is Old Burying Point Cemetary. Not only is this the oldest cemetery in Salem, but it is also one of the oldest in the United States. Many of the infamous residents from the 17th century reside here. One of these being Judge Hathorne, a very hated man. He is said to roam the grounds and his ghost has been captured in photographs. During the witch trial, it was bad luck to touch the corpse of a witch, so they tended to be dumped around the site and didn’t receive a proper burial. People claim to hear voices, see strange anomalies, odd orbs of lights, and feel sudden drops in temperature while walking through the cemetery.
Also in Salem is The Witch House. This is the only structure still standing that has a direct connection to the witch trials. This was Jonathan Corwin’s house. He was one of the judges in the trials. It is said to be haunted by the spirits of the innocent who were hanged during the trials. Visitors claim to hear disembodied voices. They also claim to have been touched by unseen forces, as well as feeling cold spots in certain areas of the house. There have been a few reports of hearing the voice of a little girl, which is said to be the youngest accused of witchcraft during the trials, a four-year-old girl.
